RIP Steve Jobs

Steve introducing iPad, 2010On October 5th I found out about Steve’s passing off the web, I believe it was from Macworld.com and right then I thought “Oh no!” It was a chocking and sad moment indeed. I had never felt so personally personally connected to anyone I have never met before. That was a little weird. But then I realized how amazing Apple’s gear is, how great they are to use and how fundamentally connected to Steve they really are.

When Steve returned to Apple in 1997 he did exactly what any CEO would have done for his company – try to put them back on the map. But Steve, with his unusual non-corporate ways and wit, did more than that: He brought his love, dedication, passion and in his case, obsessive design cleverness back in the company he co-founded in 1976.

Often people ask me why do you like Apple so much? My answer is simple: Because they love what they do and I dig that about them. Unlike Microsoft or Dell they always wow me with the simplicity of their devices, from the iPod to the iPad but also with their computers such as the Mac Pro and the Mac Mini. It’s the perfect marriage between technology and art. I love that about Apple.

What will Apple do without Steve Jobs? Only time will tell. But, I believe that there’s enough of Steve’s DNA in there to sustain the company for many years to come. As long as they remain focused on creativity, simplicity and being different from all the Dells, Samsung and HPs out there, they will remain the dominant and amazing company they are for a long time.

RIP Steve. Stay hungry, stay foolish.
